19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
